Two earthquakes hit Mexico in the space of three days, on March 3rd and 5th 2022.
On the night of March 5th, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit Oaxaca. Residents were forced to leave their homes as buildings shook due to the force of the tremors.
Sirens sounded across the region, as warning systems were set off. The extent of the damage caused is not yet known, with residents advised to check their homes for damage.
This earthquake follows one on March 3rd measuring 5.7 magnitude in Veracruz. Tremors were felt in several regions, including in Mexico City, as residents were again forced from their buildings.
These earthquakes have raised fears of further tectonic activity in the region, with the possibility that this could include volcanic eruptions or stronger earthquakes.
